Curriculum

B.A. in Foreign Languages and Literature

Undergraduate students in the department must complete 128 credits, including 28 credits from university common required courses. Required courses and credits of the department can be divided into three areas: language skills, Anglo-American literature, linguistics, and language teaching. During their sophomore year, students should choose (1) core courses of concentration (literature or linguistics/language teaching) and complete 21 required credits before graduation; and (2) a second foreign language (which are Japanese, German, French, or Spanish) and complete at least 12 credits of study in that language. Students must also take a certain number of elective courses from the general education program, the Program of Information and Communication Media, and from within the department. Departmental electives include courses in literature, linguistics, language teaching, culture studies, and practical English.

Close cooperation with the Institute of Linguistics and the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences enriches the course offerings for students in theoretical linguistics, culture studies, gender studies, and other areas. In addition to fulfilling the department requirements for graduation, undergraduates may also take required courses leading toward a teaching certificate at the Center for Teacher Education.

 English Skills Requirements for Graduation
 

(1) General English Proficiency Test (GEPT) 

High-Intermediate, Second stage

(2) TOEFL iBT

 Score of 79 or above

(3) IELTS

 Level 6 or above

(4) TOEIC

 A score of 750 or above for the Listening and Reading tests and a score of 310 or above for the Speaking and Writing tests
